--ABOUT US-- Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers has a long history of advancing professional knowledge and improving the practice of civil engineering worldwide. The student chapter of ASCE at UTA, founded in 1965, offers monthly meetings including presentations from skilled professionals. In addition, monthly job tours give students an opportunity to network and learn about the world of civil engineering. Yearly concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions offer yet another outlet for creativity in the field. ASCE at UTA also holds an annual balsa wood bridge competition for local area high school outreach and awareness of civil engineering during national engineering week in February. After becoming a local chapter student member, application can be made to join ASCE at a national level. ASCE national members enjoy a variety of programs designed to improve their professional world: Civil Engineering magazine; world-class conferences and seminars; the most powerful Web site for Civil Engineering: www.asce.org; focused professional training and development products; plus, a global network of professionals linked by six specialty Institutes and over 200 local units. --VISION-- Engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. --MISSION-- To provide essential value to members, their careers, our partners, and the public through:
