About Us

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international organization that was  found in the year 1930 for the purpose of enabling:

“Engineers and other professionals with knowledge and competence in transportation and traffic engineering to contribute individually and collectively toward meeting human needs for mobility and safety and to promote professional development of members by the support and encouragement of education, stimulation of research, development of public awareness, exchange of professional information, and maintenance of a central point of reference and action.”

With over 15,000 members worldwide, ITE is “one of the largest and fastest-growing multimodal professional transportation organizations in the world.  ITE members are traffic engineers, transportation planners and other professionals who are responsible for meeting society's needs for safe and efficient surface transportation through planning, designing, implementing, operating and maintaining surface transportation systems worldwide.

Student Chapter at The University of Texas at Arlington was formed in 1991. It is one among the five student chapters which come under District 9 (Texas) of the national ITE.

The ITE Student Chapter at UTA holds meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Guest speakers are invited to deliver a presentation at the chapter meetings. Our organization is also involved in many other activities as well like transportation career center, alumni visits, student technical presentations, field trips among others.

Our chapter is also active in intramural sports, bake sales, and volunteer work.. During the Christmas holidays, the ITE Student Chapter holds a canned food drive and adopts a needy family. We also promote our organization through T-shirt sales and involvement during National Engineers Week.
